Going the Lazy Way Out

This morning, I debated whether I should do any work today or take the day off for Martin Luther King Jr's day. Since I was tired, unshowered, and feeling lazy, I chose to take it [mostly] off, intending to do some work later. And because I hadn't watched the previous week's Castle, what better way to spend my morning! Actually since my dad was sitting around in the living room, I considered watching it with him. I'm sure glad I didn't. Castle is amazing, but it definitely can have its awkward bits.

Alas, tomorrow I must get to business, which is especially unfortunate because it is the last week of the quarter. Wooooh, tests. I really can't complain, though. I don't have huge final exams.

Ah, I am sorry for the short blog post. My mind is coming up blank today.

This week has been quite busy. I finally finished up a book analysis that I had been working on for ages! Huzzah! Well, I am almost finished with it. It's more or less the same thing, right?

Also, this weekend I went iceskating for the first real time; I had gone once when I was about three, but that obviously doesn't count. Ha, I was actually pretty nervous about it, but I did surprisingly well after I got used to it. The first ten minutes were filled with shrieking and flailing. Even though I eventually got the hang of it, I forced my sister to drag me along because my feet hurt and I didn't feel like moving them... Yeah... I am lazy. I didn't fall once though. I'm quite proud of that.

Today was a bit of a set-back in terms of productivity. However, I put together another video which features my drawings of John and Hank Green and several other crappy drawing. Oh, and my attempt at a John impersonation. Sort of. If you consider making youtube videos productive, then I have definitely been gettin' down to some business today.

If you need any cheesy awesome movie recommendations, I suggest Despicable Me, which I just watched. It's hilarious and very cute.

Facebooky Frustrations

Dealing with people who seem to attract drama and like to smother other people with it is definitely a tricky subject… one that I have fallen out of in the past couple years thanks to homeschooling. Mostly, I think of it as a perk but I guess you have been gaining some experience and strength there. Ha, there is definitely no shortage of people like that in the “real world”, I’m sure. I guess you seem to be the type of person that people want to go to for support – however, there’s a line between needing actual advice and the obsession of really stupid stuff that they really should just let go of for their own sanity (and the sanity of others).

Like I said, this sort of stuff has been pretty absent in my life, but you can never really escape it on the world of Facebook. You are very smart not to have one. While I like having one for convenience and so I can easily get in touch with someone if necessary (...sometime in the future, perhaps… I find it funny how I rarely use Facebook for its intended purpose: “connecting” with people), logging in and seeing all the drama-infested status updates and comments is extremely frustrating.

Arghhh, it’s just so stupid. I don’t really know how else to describe it. The way everyone is all up in everyone else’s face, commenting on everyone else’s life, personal relationships, etc, etc, etc. It’s almost like everything in your life is stripped down and changed into what you want it to be – you can upload only the attractive photos of you, you can say the things that will make you sound funny and smart, you can interact with other people online in a way that makes it seem like you have a close, personal relationship, when maybe that it really isn’t.

And another common trend on Facebook - what’s with people thinking they need a love life to survive? Those types of people are doomed to always be unhappy with themselves. God forbid you don’t have a “Facebook official” relationship.

Despite all of this frustration with the internet, I may possibly be getting more addicted to it… I’m considering posting some videos on my YouTube channel (which doesn’t have anything on it yet). Possibly a cover, first. I’ve been playing guitar lately. Well, anyways, internet can be a good thing. It just has a tendency to take over your life if you let it.

Grin & Bear It

Lately, I feel like the garbage dump of people’s problems. I really don’t mind, but sometimes, the things people tell me gets a bit obsessive without consideration as to how I magically get the brunt of their problems. I don't mind most of the time. Most. The only time I get off the wall is when what somebody is talking about is completely off the wall. Hey, but they need to get it out, right?

I usually exhibit Face A when people tell me their woes and they want cheesy words of encouragement and hope. I really don't mind doing this though:

Now Comes The Million Dollar Question: When somebody is a “Drama Brewer” in your life, the nasty folks who bring trouble instead of coffee, should you tell them that their way of thinking is false? You don't want to hear about their problems anymore? You want them to buy/rent/obtain/purchase on the black market a better attitude?

What sayeth you?

The Things You Find While Procrastinating...

First post! Or at least, the first post that really counts. I'm also a bit confused at how the whole format is going to be. Should I be addressing you, Mary? Or the readers, who are probably nonexistent? Well, like I said, I'll be winging it.

I have been thinking some more about New Years resolutions and I'm starting to think I shouldn't have made one, or at least not so many. Maybe the more you tell yourself you're going to do something, the less likely you are going to go ahead with your plans, possibly because you feel as if you're all set. But really, it's never too late to change for the better as long as you actually go ahead and DO IT. Such as my resolution to not procrastinate so much, a resolution I am not keeping at the moment.

During my procrastination of the day, I dug out my old eighth grade graduation yearbook. I'm not gonna lie - my article on band was pretty badass. I remember I spent a lot of time editing and rewriting my article, trying to depict our Band experience in a way that made our band members look somewhat dedicated and passionate about music. This was a rather ironic and inaccurate portrayal, because I think I was also trying to subtly mock the people in band who hated it. Band loyalty is forever, I think you will agree.

Oh, and dude, Castle is on tonight! Oh gosh, sources of procrastination are infinite.

The Girl in the Black Hat on Improvisation

Let’s see, the last time I had to wing something, it was on my high school stage in front of an audience filled with people when some kid didn’t show for their scene in a play. Thank goodness I avoided the “Meet-and-Greet” after the show by sneaking in the bathroom and grief eating chocolate. However, I am a changed person since then.

Changes.

They happen all the time in my life and for some reason or another; I always have a negative connotation of what change means in my mind. After over (insert what you think is my age here) years of living, you would think I get used to the idea that things, people and places will not remain in an “Orb of Sameness,” but I don’t. I also don’t quite know what a metaphorical “Orb of Sameness” is, but I definitely like the sound of it.

Some things in this “Orb of Sameness” include my family. They have helped me though some pretty hard times. I still don’t know whether they do this because they are stuck with me, though. *winks* I have had friends over the years, of course, but I always find that as their lives change, so do they. They change in the sense that they move on…from me. Sometimes, I wonder if people remember me, or if I never left a print on their lives at all.

It is a strange thought.

Then there are the people that change, but they change with you. I have found, through everything, they are the best.

Take for instance, my fellow blogger and best friend since kindergarten, Courtney (now, Ninja Courtney). I would say that that she has changed my life and been someone that has always been there for me, but that wouldn’t be enough. Words are inadequate for things like that.

I believe that for people to live, you need more than what is deemed the essentials: breathing, eating, sleeping, shelter and health. I think people that come into your life have a big thing to do with why you continue to walk on into a future.

Speaking of people, I have been told I am an interesting one.

I look like a hippie with my long red hair. I am a wearer of black hats. Fedoras to be more precise. I write poetry and prose. I am a very free spirit. I am more of the artistic type.

I also was born into a circus family and have several tattoos.

Another thing you should note is when I run out of the true things to say, I am a compulsive liar.

So that is a bit of my life captured in a post. I hope you liked it and stick with us, (Ninja) Courtney and me, for the ride. I have a feeling you will enjoy it.

The Neurotic Ninjas Revealed

You've managed to stumble across The Neurotic Ninjas - either that, or you have been summoned to join our antics as we blog our way through the year, which is sure to be filled with little sleep, coffee, (well, I'm more of a tea person myself) and wit.

The Neurotic Ninjas are Courtney (me) and Mary, two slightly crazy best friends who have a love of nerdiness among other things. The idea for this blog project started out many months ago when Mary suggested the idea as a way to keep in touch over the school year. Well, we've taken advantage of the magic of text messaging ever since Mary has acquired that capability, but we still thought it would be be a fun, and more in depth alternative. How much can you really say through text messages anyways? (Although, once, Mary and I communicated solely through rhyming text messages for a few days to determine who would be crowned the rhyming champion. I'm not quite sure who won that.)

To introduce myself specifically - well, again, my name is Courtney. You can usually find me procrastinating on the internet, at the library, or (not-so) sophisticatedly drinking green tea. I have a extremely nerdy love of Harry Potter that sometimes has me going to wizard rock concerts or dressing up for the midnight movie premieres. I have been told that I am a quiet person, but lately I have been accepting that part of me. Perhaps that means I am mysterious? Well, I am a ninja.

Mary and I have been best friends since the time of playing doll house and legos together in kindergarten. I value our friendship more than almost anything and she has been the most amazing friend throughout the years. If not for her, I don't even know how I would have survived the dark days of grade school. I find it incredible that even though we became best friends by chance (I could have asked anybody else to play with the doll house with me), we both have evolved in ways that would make us eerily similar yet we have our own unique qualities. For example, we both are Harry Potter nerds and have the same taste in music, yet we have had bitter disputes over American Idol Season 7 and Team Unicorn and Team Zombie. Archuleta and Unicorns all the way, man. (Ha, can you see a theme there?)

Our plans for this project are still generally unknown. This is just our introduction post, so our regular posts will hopefully be a little less awkward. We hope to blog a few days a week, switching off between the two of us: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, though that might change. Also, the subjects of these blog posts is undetermined. My guess it that they will cover a range of extremely random, nerdy, or just plain odd topics. Perhaps even mundane, once in a while. Hey, everyone has those days. But always, of course, neurotic!

Our main goal here is to keep in contact with an added creative touch, but we hope you'll join the dark side and join us in our ninjerly (...?) activities here at our new blog.
